David Byrne partners with Microsoft for XP launch

David Byrne in all his didital gloryVirgin Records America artist David Byrne is partnering with Microsoft on two projects. The influential musician, best known for his work with Talking Heads, will be involved in promotions for the Windows XP (news - web sites) operating system and WindowsMedia.com.

Most significantly, every copy of Windows XP will come with Byrne's song "Like Humans Do" already loaded in its integral Windows Media Player. It will play as a digital audio track and display album art and lyrics the first time the player is used. The track also is available on Byrne's latest album, "Look Into the Eyeball."

"Windows Media Player for Windows XP is a big step forward that will help digital music reach its full potential for fans, musicians and the industry," Virgin Records vp new media Ty Braswell said.

Additionally, Microsoft will host a free one-hour webcast of a private concert by Byrne on WindowsMedia.com. It premieres Thursday and will remain available on demand this month. The concert was recorded at Microsoft Studios in Redmond using Windows Media Video technology.

"It'll be fun to see if streaming video can truly take the next leap," Byrne said. "If it all works well, it will, of course, revolutionize our viewing habits."

Windows XP is scheduled for release Oct. 25.

But that's not the only way David Byrne can get into your computer

Watch out for the TalkHead.519 Virus!

It is a dangerous nonmemory resident parasitic virus. It searches for the files *.COM, A:\README.COM, C:\DOS\CHKDSK.COM, COMMAND.COM and overwrites them. On Friday it decrypts and displays the message:

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no foolin' around!

It also contains the encrypted text:
